Clean tech innovation will be a key engine of growth in the 21st century. To meet the urgent needs of a world in search of sustainability requires a faster acceleration of innovation. This innovation must be fueled with capital to bring about more rapid commercialization. Bringing new innovations and technologies to market can lead to job creation, wealth creation, sustainability and a healthier planet. These benefits in turn can create a virtuous cycle of more innovation and more job creation. And yet, it is always about the money.
This session will explore different sources of funding that could meet the challenges clean tech companies face in putting innovation to work. Innovation comes in many shapes and sizes, which is why there are various sources of funding to better meet the specific needs of each opportunity. Learn from panelists who will each provide a unique perspective to funding and to how they can assist companies and organizations seeking to commercialize clean technologies.

Lunch 11:45-1:15 p.m. |Washington’s Research Capacity and Potential for Clean Technologies
Washington has four distinct public institutions that are focused and proven nationally as competitive leaders in their fields: the University of Washington, Washington State University, Western Washington University, and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. These institutions are the focal points and key building blocks for Washington’s clean technology sector with known expertise and leadership in medicine, computer science, materials science, energy transmission and management, plant science, energy generation, biofuels, engineering and other fields – all critical to the cleantech sector.
Washington’s research institutions are outstanding, but we do not have as many of them as other cleantech sector states. These institutions are critical to many aspects of sector development including attracting talent, funding, and influence.
This session will engage in a dialog on what’s been done and what could be possible to further catalyze Washington’s leadership in the world’s clean technology sector.
