The Washington Clean Technology Alliance made substantial progress during the 2010-2011 fiscal year more than doubling membership, expanding the government affairs agenda, sponsoring meetings, and building capabilities.

Membership

  • Membership doubled to seventy-four Washington companies, research institutions, and organizations.
  • Initiated healthcare plans for members that can reduce costs by 10-15 percent for qualified organizations.
  • Added AdviceOnline® Human Resource System benefit, a service designed to provide HR professionals and in-house legal counsel with tools help solve HR problems and help reduce legal risks–designed by Garvey Schubert Barer attorneys.

Policy and Advocacy

  • Growing name recognition as the primary organization representing the clean technology industry in Washington State.
  • Successfully supported and advocated legislation in Olympia to:
    • Create InnovateWashington and the Clean Energy Partnership;
    • Support funding of higher education;
    • Establish and fund the Clean Energy Leadership Council.
    • Monitor opportunities for the development of cleantech businesses.

Events

  • We held monthly educational and networking events on a diverse array of topics.  In 2011, topics included financing, smart grid, future trends, electric vehicles, China, and water technologies.
  • The “Growing Cleantech Businesses” conference held in June and included the announcement of the Pacific Northwest Cleantech Open semifinalists, a panel discussion on nuclear power, and speakers on business growth.
  • The annual Summer Social at Mithun’s Waterfront Offices featured Congressman Adam Smith.

Resources

  • Hired first full-time CEO
  • Built out a new website and launched a cleantech blog to highlight WCTA members and provide a central clearinghouse for Washington clean technology.
  • Initiated email communications system and created a database with over 5,000 recipients.
